TUYÊN CÁO - STATEMENT

Cộng Đồng Công Giáo Việt Nam tại Giáo Phận Orange cực lực phản đối hãng phim Sony đã thực hiện và phát hành cuốn phim The Da Vinci Code dựa theo cuốn tiểu thuyết giả tưởng của tác giả Dan Brown.

Mặc dù The Da Vinci Code chỉ là một câu chuyện giả tưởng nhưng cốt truyện đã bóp méo các sự kiện lịch sử và chân lý của Tin Mừng để lung lạc đức tin cũng như đả kích, bôi nhọ Giáo Hội Công Giáo và các anh chị em Kitô Hữu trên toàn thế giới. Họ lợi dụng quyền tự do ngôn luận, phương tiện truyền thông và các kỹ thuật điện ảnh để làm diễn đàn đẩy mạnh những tà thuyết lạc đạo đã bị lên án từ ngàn xưa.

Cộng Đồng Công Giáo Việt Nam tại Giáo Phận Orange kêu gọi giáo dân và đồng bào hãy lên án và tẩy chay mọi đường lối cũng như những phương tiện nhằm châm biếm và xuyên tạc tôn giáo. Chúng ta cần nói lên tiếng nói của sự thật và đừng làm lợi cho những kẻ chủ xướng. Chúng ta cùng cầu nguyện cho xã hội ngày nay biết dùng sự tự do, nhất là quyền tự do ngôn luận, trong sự tôn trọng và khôn ngoan để mưu cầu lợi ích chung cho cộng đồng nhân loại.

The Vietnamese Catholic Community of the Diocese of Orange joins the Catholic Church and millions of Christians worldwide in opposing the upcoming release of the motion picture The Da Vinci Code.

The Da Vinci Code should not be excused as merely a work of fiction or entertainment. This work distorts the history and the Biblical truths of the Catholic Church, and presents that distortion as researched and documented fact. For the members of the Catholic Church we should not accept this type of degradation of our fundamental beliefs as a trade-off for entertainment value. As our Pope Benedict has stated, perhaps the greatest danger we face today is the relativism of our beliefs and the rejection of absolute truth. This type of falsification of our religion and the workings of the Catholic Church should be viewed as an attack on all of us and our faith.

We urge all people of faith to not support this movie or any attempt in smearing religions. Above all, we need to seek the true history of the life of Jesus Christ in the teachings of the Bible, and to be vigilant in debunking and rejecting all untruths. Let us pray for a world that continues to value religion and the morality of the absolute truth of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
